An emerging designer brand founded in 2019 by Danish-born designer, Christian Juul Nielsen.

The collection focuses on thoughtful, well-designed, and innovative clothing for discerning and dynamic women and men.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Olafur Eliasson and Helen Frankenthaler, AKNVAS is associated with modern colorful collections focused on drape, texture, flattering silhouettes, innovative knits and an elevated palette. With just two official runway shows, AKNVAS is proud to highlight the importance of an inclusive casting of diverse individuals.

The product is young and fresh – proud to be designed and predominantly made in NYC.

AKNVAS utilizes several recycled and sustainable materials in our collections.

Examples including the Fall‘23 navy wool blend coats made from recycled wool. Our supplier collects preowned coats and leftover wool to reweave them into reborn fabrics, which we then transform into something anew.

In addition to wool, we employ recycled polyester and organic cotton, making sure to never throw out any of our unused materials. All leftover fabrics are donated to students, sold back to suppliers, or used for muslins and draping.

Our collections are predominantly produced in New York’s Garment District, where our studio is based. The fabrics are moved from the studio to the workspace by foot whenever possible and garments are returned to us the same way resulting in a lowered carbon footprint.

KNITWEAR

AKNVAS is known for its innovative genderfluid knitwear. Modernity and experimentation is the drive behind the creation of these pieces, using luxury materials including cashmere and wool blends as well as manmade polyesters and nylons.

Gender Fluidity

We prioritize truly genderfluid options, crafting oversized shirting and outerwear as well as bottoms with elastic enclosures and well thought out pleating that creates a flattering silhouette on both wide and narrow hips.
